June 14, 1775 - Establishment of the Continental Army
"Resolved, That six companies of expert rifleman, be immediately raised in Pennsylvania, two in Maryland, and two in Virginia; ... and that each company, as soon as completed, shall march and join the army near Boston, to be there employed as light infantry, under the command of the chief Officer in that army."
Since its establishment, the Army has played a vital role in the growth and development of the nation. Readiness remains the Army's number one priority, and it has been the cornerstone of the Army's ability to serve wherever needed during its 244-year legacy. Happy Birthday Army. HOORAH!
Flag Day - June 14th
Flag Day commemorates the adoption of the National flag in June 14, 1777 by the Continental Congress. President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation June 14, 1916 calling for nationwide observance of Flag Day. President Harry Truman made Flag Day signed legislation making Flag Day official August of 1949. Fly "Old Glory" high and proud today.
